AN alleged child rapist who claimed to be possessed by an ancient Egyptian sex god will face a retrial after a jury was unable to reach a verdict this week.

The man and his wife, an erotic masseuse, had pleaded not guilty in Queensland's Southport District Court to eight charges including rape and indecent dealing relating to alleged offences against the woman's 14-year-old daughter.

During the seven-day trial, it was alleged the man went into a trance-like state and took on the persona of Min, the Egyptian god of sexuality and fertility.

The Crown claimed this was a sham so the man could seduce his stepdaughter.

But after more than 24 hours' deliberation, the six-man, six-woman jury said they were unable to reach a verdict on any of the charges.

Judge Julie Dick, SC, dismissed the jury and ordered that the case be listed for mention on May 24.
