However, the couple explained that they have been unable to bring their eldest children into the country as UK family reunion rules do not allow parents to apply for asylum for children who are above the age of 18. The Alwadis have not seen their 19-year-old son and 20-year-old daughter for nine months, with their son living in a refugee camp in Calais and their daughter in Turkey.

IMF: Egypt overtakes SA as Africa’s second largest economy

Christie Viljoen

South Africa has been known as the continent’s second-largest economy since Nigeria rebased its gross domestic product (GDP) data in early 2014. However, the IMF World Economic Outlook (WEO) released in mid-April provided more sobering GDP statistics for South Africa. Not only did the multilateral organisation suggest that the South African economy would grow by a mere 0.6% this year, but also that the country is now only the third-largest economy on the continent behind Nigeria and new silver medalist Egypt.

Nigeria’s rebasing exercise some two years ago revealed that the oil-dependent economy was almost twice as big as previously thought. The country’s National Bureau of Statistics (NBS) ensured greater measurement of the informal sector, the inclusion of 46 industries from a previous 33, as well as methodological changes to measuring service sector activity with the rebasing. Backward adjustments to GDP indicated that Nigerian GDP in US dollar terms surpassed its South African equivalent in 2011. By the end of 2015, Nigeria’s GDP was measured at $490 billion compared to South Africa’s estimate of $313 billion.

Sample letter to MPs following Foreign Office considering Egypt as a country of concern

As your Excellency knows that Egypt is fighting terrorism on its land and the Middle East region which needs all to cooperate to defeat the threat of danger of "sliding into failure state as in Syria, Libya, Iraq and Yemen."

Egypt has been fighting an insurgency by militants based in the Sinai as well as all over Egypt, who have pledged allegiance to the Islamic State group, and militants have carried out bombings and shootings against police officers and troops in Cairo and other cities, they assassinated the persecutor general and several senior police officers since 2013.

Drive by terror plot

A pair of home-grown terrorists has been jailed for life after plotting to kill soldiers, police officers and civilians in a series of Islamic State-inspired drive-by shootings.

Acting on instruction from mastermind Tarik Hassane, physics student Suhaib Majeed had got his hands on a gun and ammunition and was discussing buying an untraceable moped before police swooped to arrest him in September 2014.

Muslim preachers approved by the Government are routinely distributing extremist literature in British prisons leaving hundreds of inmates at risks of radicalisation, a leaked report has found.

The extremist review, ordered by Michael Gove last year, found extremist CDs and pamphlets in more than 10 jails in November, it was reported today.

Inspectors also found hate tracts encouraging the murder of apostates, misogynistic and homophobic leaflets and extreme Islamic literature preaching contempt for British society.

The report is said to have sparked panic among officials who are worried about being seen to have lost control of jails - but ministers have not yet approved its publication.

UK:5 Radical Muslims arrested in probe linked to Paris and Brussels jihad massacres

The BBC, true to form, gives us no indication that these people were Muslims. The only hint is that the probe was linked to the Paris and Brussels jihad attacks. The BBC does all it can to make sure that Britons have no idea they’re embroiled in a global war.

“UK terror arrests in probe ‘linked to Europe attacks,'” BBC, April 15, 2016:

Five people have been arrested on suspicion of terrorism offences as part of an investigation launched after the recent attacks in Paris and Brussels, West Midlands Police say.

Three men, aged 26, 40 and 59, and a 29-year-old woman, were held in Birmingham on Thursday night.

A fourth man, 26, was arrested at Gatwick Airport in the early hours of Friday. All five are from Birmingham.

Whitehall officials described the arrests as “significant”.

Bosnia becomes home to radical Islamists

Bosnia has reportedly become a hub for radical Islamists. They recruit fighters, promote jihad and preach a fundamentalist interpretation of Islam — just across the border from the European Union, according to a report published by Germany’s Spiegel online.

As many as 300 Islamist radicals have left Bosnia-Herzegovina to join Islamic State or al-Qaeda in Syria or Iraq. Two of the most wanted terrorists in the world are among them: Bajro Ikanovic, for many years the commander of the largest IS training camp in northern Syria; and Nusret Imamovic, a leading member of the Nusra Front in Syria, a group tied to al-Qaeda.
