cross in cuffs persecutionA Christian group that monitors religious persecution says Muslim countries should respond to President Barack Obama's conciliatory speech in Egypt by respecting their own citizens' religious rights.

Dr. Carl Moeller, president of Open Doors USA, says while he has no problems with Obama reaching out to the Muslim world, many still do not understand the dangers faced by Christians in such countries.

"Those who follow Jesus Christ, who've converted from Islam, Muslim-background believers, have to literally be secret believers -- [they have] to keep their belief system secret so they won't be suffering the loss of jobs or their freedoms," he explains.
 
Carl MoellerReligious rights should be respected in Islamic countries, Moeller contends. "There is no reciprocity with the religious liberties that Muslims here in the United States enjoy, with the lack of religious liberties that Christians throughout the Muslim world experience," he adds.
 
Moeller is hopeful the president's recent trip will help shed light on the treatment of Christians throughout the region.
