Free Michel Nabil

In the aftermath of the Egyptian revolution Coptic Christian Michel Nabil was arrested for writing a blog titled “The People and the Army Were Never One Hand”,  and convicted of insulting the military and disturbing public security.

The article in no way disturbs the peace or incites any anarchy or protest.

Egypt’s Supreme Council of the Armed Forces (SCAF), has never explained or detailed on what basis the article disturbs the peace. The article was a personal expression of opinion about the future of Egypt, the very things that motivated the revolution, namely “freedom and democracy”.

Most alarming is the notion of “insulting the military”, reality been Nabil merely expressed an opinion that SCAF did not like. Crucially, these despots in SCAF are acting in the exact same manner that has caused outrage throughout the “Islamic middle east”. The mass protests and “revolutions” are still occurring, resulting in 10,000’s of deaths including during Ramadan (not very holy!!).

SCAF's actions are typical of "Islamic dictators" that have tormented their own people as well as robbing them blind. The boys from SCAF consider they are untouchable and beyond criticism, observation or accountability.

Tantawi the head of SCAF was one of Mubarak's boys and is was the subject of protests demanding he stand down and has become extremely unpopular.

Tantawi and SCAF have been widely criticised ;

* for dragging the chain and their failure to bring about true change,

* releasing radical Islamic terrorists and Jihadists from Jail,

* forced virginity tests on female protesters by members of of the Army

* Standing by and watching Islamists attack Christians and burn homes and churches

* demolishing security fences at desert monasteries making them easy targets for attack

* and a secret alliance with the Muslim Brotherhood.

Coptics and Christians around the world are calling on Egypt’s Supreme Council of the Armed Forces (SCAF) to immediately release the detained political activist. Michel Nabil’s family are extremely distressed and concerned as has been on a hunger strike since last month in protest against his conviction. Michel Nabil was denied a civilian trial and was convicted during a military trial.

The conflict of interest in this instance is frightful, "the military alleges it was insulted and the defendant is tried in a military court presided over by the military officers that allege he insulted them. Nabil committed no crime and should have been tried impartially in a Civil court.

The conduct and abuse of SCAF is reprehensible and of great concern.

Last Month 2 other men Mahfouz and Nagati were both acquitted after SCAF dropped their charges of allegedly insulting the army and inciting violence.

In addition to calling upon SCAF to release and pardon Nabil, we demand that all Egyptian citizens be treated fairly and EQUALLY irrespective of faith or religion and to take appropriate measures to prevent the kidnapping, rape and forced conversion of Coptic christian women. Egypt should be ashamed for allowing such chronic violations of civil liberty with no response or action.

Petitions and World wide protests are been planned if Nabil is not freed in the immediate future.

We call upon civilised countries to call for his immediate release and return the young man to his family.
